Bio

Madhusudana Shashanka is a machine learning and artificial intelligence researcher and leader with a proven track-record of building industry leading products, driving fundamental and applied research, and developing intellectual property. He is currently the Founder and Chief of AI at Concentric AI - a venture-backed startup transforming enterprise data security.

With experience across a variety of industries and application domains, he has spent his career developing AI solutions for pressing business problems and identifying appropriate business applications for promising state-of-the-art AI techniques and productizing them. His startup experience also includes Niara, an enterprise security startup where he led AI and developed the core modules for user behavior analytics. He arrived at Niara via the acquisition of PetaSecure where he was a co-founder and the Chief Scientist. Apart from these stints at bay area startups which also included a short time at the social discovery platform Tagged, his experience includes building an ML and data science center of excellence at Charles Schwab and applied research at the corporate innovation arms of United Technologies (now Raytheon) and Mars. At United Technologies Research Center, he led several projects and developed decision support solutions for applications in fault detection, diagnostics and prognostics of complex systems such as jet engines, helicopters, elevators and HVAC systems. At Mars, he applied machine learning and mathematical models to solve problems in the areas of advertising, marketing and retail data mining. He began his industry career as an intern at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs where he developed privacy-preserving machine learning algorithms and probabilistic methods for audio source separation.

Dr. Shashanka has a PhD in computational neuroscience from Boston University and a bachelors degree in computer science from BITS Pilani, India. He is a senior member of the IEEE and served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems. He holds multiple US patents and has published more than 35 peer-reviewed publications in leading conferences and journals.
